2. Approximate tank dimensions
For preliminary planning, a cylindrical or elliptical tank may be approximately 2.5–3.5 metres long, depending on its diameter, shape, head design and usable capacity. These are indicative dimensions only; the manufacturer must calculate the actual tank size and safe working capacity.
3. Pump and dispensing system
Diesel transfer pump with suitable motor, PTO or independent drive.
Flow rate: 50–100 LPM as a typical selection range.
Flow meter with calibration appropriate to the intended use.
Fuel hose reel with delivery hose and automatic nozzle.
Suction strainer, filter and water separator.
Bypass/pressure-relief arrangement as required by the pump design.
Emergency stop and electrical isolation where applicable.
A commercial dispensing system may also include a calibrated meter, hose reel, automatic cut-off nozzle and additional fuel-safety interlocks.
4. Safety and statutory requirements
For a diesel bowser operating in India, verify the applicable approvals and requirements before fabrication or purchase, including:
PESO requirements for the proposed tank and operating arrangement.
Applicable motor vehicle registration, permits and roadworthiness requirements for a road-going unit.
Applicable Legal Metrology approval and verification for commercial fuel dispensing.
Approved tank design, leak testing, secure mounting, venting and fuel-compatible fittings.
Required fire protection, electrical safety and operating procedures.
